OLYMPIAN Lachlan Renshaw is giving running tips to Balmoral Burn race hopefuls on how to tackle the lactic-acid-inducing slopes of Awaba Hill on June 1.
Students from Ravenswood School, St Josephs, Westfield Sports High and Riverview met the Olympic athlete last Friday to discuss tactics for the race.
Renshaw has won the Balmoral Burn race for the past two years and will enter again this year.
He said he became involved in the Balmoral Burn about five years ago when he was a student at Sydney Grammar.
Renshaw is in training for the Beijing Olympics. But he still found time to help the Humpty Foundation support the state's sick children.
On June 12, he leaves for Germany to begin his pre-Olympic training.
Humpty Dumpty chief executive officer and founder Paul Francis is hoping for more schools, parents and students to enter teams for this year's race.
"This is a real community event and there are a stack of reasons why schools both local and throughout the metropolitan area and country should get involved," he said.
The charity now supports more than 40 hospitals across the State including the Royal North Shore, Hornsby, Manly, Mt Druitt, St George and Sutherland hospitals.
During 2007, the foundation raised about $3 million and bought 249 pieces of equipment for cash-starved hospitals.
Last year about 8000 people gathered at the bottom of the Awaba Hill to race to the top. Celebrities such as Jane Fleming and Melinda Gainsford-Taylor were among those who took part.
The traditional pre-race sponsors' dinner will be held on May 30 featuring the superb food of Bathers' Pavilion chef Serge Dansereau. Entry for the senior school relay is $150 a team. Primary students can run for $10 each. Details at www.humpty.com.au
