Mosman Rowing Club has five athletes who have been selected to compete in the Beijing Olympics. Coach Nick Garratt is also going to Beijing.
MOSMAN is going to the Olympics. Proving its reputation as a rowing powerhouse, Mosman Rowing Club has had five of its members and its head coach selected to represent Australia at the Beijing Olympic Games in August.
Moreover, the club will have more rowers taking part in the Olympics than any other club in the state.
Tom Laurich will row in the eight-member race after making his debut in the Athens Olympics, while Peter Hardcastle will compete in his third Olympics alongside Dan Noonan in the quad sculls. Two Mosman women also made the team: Amy Ives and Zoe Uphill were selected for the women's quad scull. They will be coached by Mosman Rowing Club's head coach Nick Garratt, who was also selected for the Olympics. "It is all just fantastic, it's quite surreal and I am still coming to terms with it," Uphill told the Daily.
The Beijing Olympic Games will be Uphill's first.
She took up the sport in 2004 after injuries forced her retirement from professional netball.
She quickly rose through the ranks to the top.
Uphill said her selection was "a dream come true".
She said she had moved to Mosman for the "legendary" coaching of Garratt.
