NORTHERN Suburbs are back in the winning groove after beating Southern Districts at North Sydney Oval on Saturday.
The 30-10 win was a confidence booster for the side, who are now equal fourth on the competition table with Warringah.
"It was a very good game Southern Districts are one of those teams we could have lost to," Norths captain Al Manning said.
The secret to the team's success was regular lifts in energy from the players, Manning said.
"We basically played the game in 20-minute intervals," he said. "We lifted our intensity every 20 minutes.
"That was something we were lacking against Sydney Uni last weekend."
But Norths still have plenty to work on, Manning said. "We need to focus on playing to our game plan for the entire 80 minutes.
"To win the comp we need to keep on building."
Manning said young winger Andrew Smith, who scored a 70m try, was in top form.
Norths play Manly at North Sydney Oval on Saturday and Manning is hoping for a repeat performance.
"It's going to be quite physical they've got a fairly big pack," he said. "But if we can play like we did on the weekend, at a fast pace, we'll be able to get them."
NORTHERN SUBURBS 30 (D Maunsell, J Lew, D Bond, A Smith tries; T Sly two conversions, two penalty goals) d SOUTHERN DISTRICTS 10 (C Richards try; D Kapene conversion, penalty goal).
