Mosman struck down
Thursday 1 May, 2008 12:01am
THREE clinical strikes led to a dramatic end to the good start to the season for Mosman FC, who lost 3-0 to CC Strikers on Saturday.
Off the back of two rounds postponed due to bad weather, CC Strikers shook off their cobwebs early as they out-muscled the weakened Mosman side.
"The score line doesn't really give the performance justice," Mosman coach Spencer Prior said. "Strikers simply finished three of their four chances, and we wasted about a dozen. We had most possession and played good spells of football, but just weren't decisive in the final third."
Keeper Brett Chaplin, carrying a groin injury, was finally beaten between the sticks following a cross and a scramble in the goal mouth. Soon after the restart, a growing lack of mobility forced Chaplin to break down during the next Strikers attack, leading to the second goal of the game.
Jamie Collins, team captain, rallied the team to come back and take over the game with improving play between central midfield partner James Goodwin and debutante Simon Bloom.
With Chaplin replaced by star centre-forward Martin Hall in goal the Strikers went down to 10 men following a stamping incident.
As Mosman pushed forward, more chances were created and squandered.
They were beaten by a sucker punch goal in the dying minutes from a Strikers corner.
Mosman play their first home game on Sunday against league leaders Brookvale at Allan Border Oval at 3pm.
