THE three Mosman women's football teams fought hard on Sunday but were unable to secure wins in the Manly-Warringah competition.
The division-two side conceded a goal early on in their match against Dee Why.
This early setback sapped Mosman's confidence.
Dee Why continued to dominate and scored again, but the Mosman defence coped well and looked better on the break.
A throw down the left wing found Andrea Christie, but her cross was blocked and the ball fell to Amelia Carter.
Carter cut past her opponent and, from a tight angle, she was able to chip the ball over the players at the front post and send the ball into the back of the net.
It was 2-1 at half-time, but Dee Why managed to score again in the second half.
Being 3-1 down, Mosman fought hard. Christie found herself free in the middle and tried her luck from 25 yards. The Dee Why keeper got both hands to the ball but she could only deflect it into her own net.
In the end, Dee Why won 3-2.
Meanwhile, the division-four team took on Seaforth on Sunday.
Seaforth managed to score a goal early and it rattled Mosman.
Mosman continued to battle and there was a great cross from Katrina Franks that was caught in front of goal by the hands of a Seaforth defender.
She received a yellow card rather than a red, which further frustrated the Mosman team.
Ailsa Bailey stepped up to take the penalty, but it went straight into the hands of the goalie.
A tough half-time talk from coach Graham Johnson helped the team lift its game in the second half.
Mosman attacked hard and made many shots at goal but they were frustrated by Seaforth's goalie.
The Mosman defence was brilliant in the second half, with the back four blocking anything that came its way.
The defence was well supported by goalie Nicole Birrell, who made an impressive save, flicking the ball over the back line before she fell into the goal.
Unfortunately it was 1-0 loss for Mosman at the final whistle. The division-five team also lost 5-2 to Beacon Hill.
